Velez monument

A governor astride his horse.

Apolinar Velez was governor of Misamis Province from 1906 to 1909.

He also was the founder of the Misamis Provincial High School, now called Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School. This is the biggest public high school in Cagayan de Oro.

Velez Street, on which the school is situated, is named after the governor.
