Velez monument

A governor astride his horse.

Apolinar Velez was governor of Misamis Province from 1906 to 1909.

He also was the founder of the Misamis Provincial High School, now called Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School. This is the biggest public high school in Cagayan de Oro.

Velez Street, on which the school is situated, is named after the governor.

Monument for a mayor.

Justiniano R. Borja was mayor of Cagayan de Oro from 1954 to 1964.

is the theme of this year's Press Freedom Week celebration,
adopted by the Cagayan de Oro Press Club
from the World Press Freedom Day last May 3.

The Press Freedom Monument needs to be restored to look new again.

to mark the Araw Ng Kagitingan.
In English, that's Day Of Valor,
a public holiday commemorating the fall of Bataan
during the Second World War.
