Changing colors
EL PUEBLO A SUS HEROES. Now the color is white
(and the lettering is gold); previously it was light blue; and before
that it was maroon. What were the original colors of this monument?
Should the colors be changed every so often?

Stop thru street
Rizal Street, for a long time now,
is a one-way street from north to south.
This Stop Thru Street road sign
at the corner of Rizal and R.N. Abejuela
is not needed anymore.

Erring drivers
An interesting news item from The Power,
published by the City Council.
---
FROM January to June 2013, some 16,377 drivers who violated traffic rules and regulations were apprehended by the Roads and Traffic Administration.
This is contained in the semi-annual report submitted by the RTA to the Office of Vice Mayor Caesar Ian E. Acenas, which was furnished to the City Council committee on public utilities chaired by Councilor Roger Abaday.
Based on the report, out of these, 3,703 drivers paid the corresponding fines.
Charges are being filed against the other drivers, The Power learned.

Takyan
A boy playing takyan at Divisoria
was a welcome break
from what we usually see of children today --
playing computer games.

Magsaysay Monument
After more than 50 years
the Magsaysay Monument at Divisoria
still stands.
But a lot of the letters
on the dedicatory marker
have long been vandalized;
the message now seems cryptic.

Flag
A newly sewn Philippine flag
was raised at Divisoria last Wednesday
during the joint celebration
for Independence Day
and the City Charter Day anniversary
(which actually is on June 15).
We'll continue observing National Flag Month
the rest of June.

Hawaiian shave ice
No, you're not in Honolulu.
You're in Divisoria
where a shave ice stand
can make you feel cool as well.
The plastic cups, believe it or not,
come from Hawaii.

Araw Ng Kagitingan
Government workers garlanded the Heroes monument
at Divisoria on the morning of April 9, 2013,
to mark the Araw Ng Kagitingan.
In English, that's Day Of Valor,
a public holiday commemorating the fall of Bataan
during the Second World War.
