THE City Council committee on tourism chaired by Councilor Lourdes Candy Darimbang, on Tuesday discussed the proposed ordinance which will pave the way for the conduct of a   beautification drive in all barangays in Cagayan de Oro City.
Councilor Darimbang, author of the proposed ordinance, said there is a need for the 80 barangays to take part in the cleanliness drive to promote and enhance the present ambiance and natural landscape of the city.

During the meeting with representatives from City Tourism & Cultural Affairs Office and some barangay chairmen, it was agreed that an adhoc committee  should be created to  study and prepare the mechanics of the proposed ordinance.
The adhoc committee will be composed of representatives of the City Tourism Office, City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO), City Public Services Office (CPSO), Community Affairs Division, City Accounting Office, City Budget Office and Association of the Barangay Council headed by Councilor Yan Lam Lim.

CdeO adjudged as grand winner of
‘Livable Cities Design Challenge’

Cagayan de Oro City’s status and reputation as the country’s 2nd most competitive city today rose to another level after being adjudged as grand winner of the ‘Livable Cities Design Challenge’ initiated by the National Competitiveness Council and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
‘Livable Cities Design Challenge’ is a planning and design competition whose objective is to get city planners across the Philippines to better plan their respective cities for a climate-defined future and for disaster-risk reduction.
The city bagged the top award in the Government Center category when it bested three other finalists, namely the cities of Roxas, Valenzuela and Zamboanga.
Government center means a complex of government buildings which are designed to be disaster-resistant and must be designed to serve the public in pre- and post-disaster phases. They must serve its primary purpose as a public service facility such as school, hospital or office building.
Cagayan de Oro City’s entry was entitled ‘Oro Central’ which is designed to develop City Central School not just as a topnotch public elementary institution but as well as an disaster-resistant evacuation center in times of disasters and/or calamities.
The city’s delegation headed by City Mayor Oscar Moreno formally received the accolade during Wednesday’s final conference and awarding ceremony held in Manila.
Elated with the citation, Mayor Moreno profusely thanked local architects from the Mindanao University of Science and Technology, United Architects of the Philippines, private sector ug the local government team led by City Hall’s Local Investment Promotions Officer Eileen San Juan for working hard together on the conceptualization and designing of the city’s entry.
