Dads OK Comprehensive Development Plan of CdeO
THROUGH Ordinance No. 11883-2014, the 17th City Council during the regular session
yesterday presided over by Vice Mayor Caesar Ian E. Acenas approved the
Comprehensive Development Plan of the Cagayan de Oro City for 2014 to 2019.
The CDP aims to have a city managed through good
governance and to empower its citizenry to thrive in a highly competitive
economy and a sustainable environment nurturing its diversity and
multi-cultural heritage towards a resilient, progressive and inclusive future.
Strategies to be implemented under the CDP’s social
development plan will be focused on employment and livelihood, housing and
resettlement, sports and recreation and Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation
It will also involve programs for the improvement of
health facilities and services, and construction of health centers in all
relocation areas; water and sanitation services, retroffiting of at risk school
buildings, provision of adequate educational facilities, construction of day
care centers in all relocation areas, information advocacy programs, among
others.
Meanwhile, under the economic development plan, the city
will expand areas for urban greening, streamline business registration process,
strengthen investment promotion, establish post-harvest facilities, develop
rural road network linking to primary farming areas, maintenance of identified
natural sites for eco-tourism, and others.
Strategies under
the infrastructure and physical development plan include the provision,
rehabilitation and establishment of quality infra support such as dikes,
protection wall, upgraded drainage canal; the formulation of Comprehensive
Drainage Master Plan, improvement of road network, establishment of sewerage
system and improvement of river channel, among others.
The CDP also includes the city’s Environmental and
Management and Institutional Development Plans.
The ordinance was reviewed and favorably endorsed by the
committees on public works and on laws and rules chaired by Councilors Alden
Bacal and Ramon Tabor, respectively.

Educ cmte to tackle resolutions
of Rotary Youth officials 2014
THE City Council committee on education
chaired by Councilor Adrian Barba will soon tackle resolutions of the Rotary Youth City
Officials which were passed during the
Rotary Youth Week last Sept 26, 2014 and recently adopted by the 17th City Council for appropriate action of the
different committees.
The youth officials were student
leaders from 25 private and public
secondary schools in the city.
One of these is the resolution
requesting for funds for the improvement of the library at the Cugman National
High School, including the acquisition of new
books.
The committee will also consider the
request for the Department of Education (DepEd) to provide Islamic Values
Oriented Programs to Muslim students in all schools and for the conduct of
Human Sexuality Seminars in all public secondary schools.
The committee will also look into the
resolution requesting for additional computer units for the Puntod National
High School.
This year’s batch of Rotary Youth
Officials also requested the City College Scholarship Program also chaired
by Councilor Barba
to allocate slots for persons
with disabilities (PWD). This is in response to the verbal request of Phil Ray Neri, president of the Youth One
Unite Their Handicapped, Inc (YOUTH) to the Rotary Youth Officials during the
Rotary Youth Week.

Beautification
drive in brgys under study
THE City Council committee on tourism
chaired by Councilor Lourdes Candy Darimbang, on Tuesday discussed the proposed
ordinance which will pave the way for the conduct of a beautification drive in all barangays in Cagayan
de Oro City.
Councilor Darimbang, author of the
proposed ordinance, said there is a need for the 80 barangays to take part in
the cleanliness drive to promote and enhance the present ambiance and natural
landscape of the city.
She said one way of captivating the
attention of various communities is to encourage the participation of every
barangay.
The lady councilor said a pleasant
community appearance will add to home values and harness neighborhood
unification. She said it will encourage the active participation of residents
in improving the aesthetics of the community and bring the sense of pride among
the residents.
During the meeting with
representatives from City Tourism & Cultural Affairs Office and some
barangay chairmen, it was agreed that an adhoc committee should be created to study and prepare the mechanics of the
proposed ordinance.
The adhoc committee will be composed
of representatives of the City Tourism Office, City Local Environment and
Natural Resources Office (CLENRO), City Public Services Office (CPSO),
Community Affairs Division, City Accounting Office, City Budget Office and
Association of the Barangay Council headed by Councilor Yan Lam Lim.
The committee will tackle the final
composition of the adhoc committee and mechanics of the proposed ordinance on
November 18, 2014.

for demise of motorela icon
THE 17th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Caesar Ian
E. Acenas expressed the city’s deepest sorrow for the demise of Mr. Rafael
“Faeling” D. Floirendo, inventor of the motorela and one of the pioneers of the
ham industry in Cagayan de Oro.

that his passing away has saddened many
Kagay-anons, particularly the members of

employees of the city government.

CdeO adjudged as
grand winner of
‘Livable Cities
Design Challenge’
Cagayan
de Oro City’s status and reputation as the country’s 2nd most
competitive city today rose to another level after being adjudged as grand
winner of the ‘Livable Cities Design Challenge’ initiated by the National
Competitiveness Council and the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID).
‘Livable Cities Design Challenge’ is a planning and design competition whose objective is to
get city planners across the Philippines to better plan their respective cities
for a climate-defined future and for disaster-risk reduction.
The
city bagged the top award in the Government Center category when it bested
three other finalists, namely the cities of Roxas, Valenzuela and Zamboanga.
Government center means a complex of government buildings
which are designed to be disaster-resistant and must be designed to serve the
public in pre- and post-disaster phases. They must serve its primary purpose as
a public service facility such as school, hospital or office building.
Cagayan
de Oro City’s entry was entitled ‘Oro Central’ which is designed to develop
City Central School not just as a topnotch public elementary institution but as
well as an disaster-resistant evacuation center in times of disasters and/or
calamities.
The
city’s delegation headed by City Mayor Oscar Moreno formally received the
accolade during Wednesday’s final conference and awarding ceremony held in
Manila.
Elated
with the citation, Mayor Moreno profusely thanked local architects from the Mindanao
University of Science and Technology, United Architects of the Philippines, private
sector ug the local government team led by City Hall’s Local Investment
Promotions Officer Eileen San Juan for working hard together on the
conceptualization and designing of the city’s entry.

Salcedo invites parents to take part
in Children’s Month Celebration
COUNCILOR Enrico Salcedo, chair of the City
Council committee on social services and of the
City Council for the Protection of Children (CCPC) urges parents to
participate in various activities that highlight the celebration of National
Children’s Month in the city.
The CCPC and the City Social Welfare
and Development Office (CSWD) jointly initiated and organized programs during
the month-long celebration with the
theme: “Bata Kasali Ka, Ikaw ay Mahalaga.”
The celebration started last
Saturday, October 4, 2014 with the Awareness Walk for the Child’s Rights.
Other activities scheduled are:
Symposium in barangays Carmen and
Canitoan today, October 8 and in barangays Bugo and Macabalan on October 10 and
a Film Showing entitled “Paglaya sa Tanikala” at the Ayala Centrio on October
11.
On October 13, there will be an
educational tour for street children and Children in Conflict with Law (CICL)
at Sugbongcogon.
A Street Children and Parents
Enhancement Seminar will be beld on October 19 at the City Tourism Hall and a
Sportfest on October 20, which will be participated by street children from the
Boys Town and Tahanan ng Kabataan.
There will also be a free dental and
medical check-up for kids at the City Tourism Hall on said date.
According to the organizers, the
awarding ceremony for the Search for Child-Friendly Barangay will take place on
October 27 at the City Hall grounds during the flag raising ceremony while the
Day Care Culminating Activity will be held on October 31 at the City Tourism
Hall.
