COWD advisory

A July 8 advisory from the
Cagayan de Oro City Water District.

--
This is to notify the public that an unfortunate incident happened today at Zone 10 Upper Carmen which has affected water supply in a specific area. Upon receipt of reports from affected residents that used oil and water came out from their faucets this morning, a technical crew was immediately deployed to investigate the matter.

Investigation has shown that our water supply in that specific area has been contaminated.  Used oil may have been dumped into the canal under a driveway where our 2-inch diameter pipeline runs parallel to.  The oil may have seeped into the PE tube through a leak in it affecting supply going to our stub-out.   This explains used oil coming out from the faucets of some residents whose lines are connected to the stub out.

To address the emergency situation, realignment of 2 inches diameter pipeline will be undertaken to prevent continued seepage of oil into our line.  Flushing will also be conducted to remove remaining oil.  Further, water delivery by the COWD tanker will be facilitated for the affected customers starting this afternoon until realignment and flushing works will be completed.  Estimated time of completion would be 24 hours.

In the history of COWD’s service, this is the first time this situation has been encountered.  It is an isolated case and we sincerely apologize to the affected customers for this unfortunate incident.

Providing safe and potable water has always been our prime concern.  Rest assured, all measures to restore normal water supply will be undertaken.

Thank you for your understanding and consideration.
